Which jar should you open first?

Can I store dried herbs in mason jars?
Yes, when the herbs are fully dry, the jar closes with a tight two-piece canning lid or a bail-and-gasket clip top, and the jar stays out of direct light and heat. A good lid and a cool, dark spot matter more than the jar name on the label.
Two-piece rings and flats on regular- or wide-mouth canning jars are the familiar airtight option for a working pantry row. Bail jars need a gasket that still seats flat. Plastic is fine for short transfers, scoops, or holding a dry ingredient while you fill a jar. It is a weaker long-term home for whole dried leaves and flowers. Static can cling to powder. Odors linger. Thin containers crush easily. If you already use plastic spice tubes, pour into glass once the herb has a permanent shelf spot.
